How It's Going

I had a little break the first week of May, my first vacation in about 3 months. My girlfriend and I did some travelling about the country and I met her parents. Before the big encounter, we took a trip with some friends to the grand shrine in Ise. I've been wanting to go there since I took an introductory Japanese culture class in college. It was a really nice, I just wish I had more time to enjoy it. Being that we went there on a holiday weekend, the grounds were packed. We got some nice sights, and picked up a little of the local eats, but it was still pretty rushed since most of our time was spent fighting through crowds.

After getting back to Osaka, Midori and I took a bus up to her parents' place in northern Kyoto prefecture. Lovely area, rural sea coast village. The have an old gas-powered, one-car train that services the area, kinda like a trolley in San Fran. The weather was generally nice and we did plenty of wandering around town. But mostly we hung around the family's house and relaxed. I did see Amanohashidate, which is one of Japan's three most scenic areas. That's two down for me!

Of course, now it's back to work.

Dad

Here's the note:

Lots of change!

I tried calling you yesterday (Father's Day Morning), but my calling card
wouldn't work from a pay phone.

Since I was passing through Hannibal Missouri, I thought back to the time
you, me and my Dad ate lunch there at a McDonald's. We were on our way to
Iowa for the Petty family reunion (Susie wasn't born yet) and Eva flew to
meet us in Des Moines. Anyway, we stopped for lunch and ate outside and you
started climbing on a brick planter after you were done; next thing I knew,
you were standing on the bricks peeing on the plants!

What was I doing in Hannibal? I was on my way up here to Owatonna,
Minnesota where I am working on a contract job till Nov. 30 (today was my
first day).

Plan is to work 2 weeks, find a place to live, then go back to Keystone for
4th of July week. When I come back up I'll bring the Lotus and all my other
"stuff" and spend my free time getting that car done. Hopefully, I'll be
all done with the Lotus when this job ends and I'll take some time to tour
around on the way back to Florida.
I rented a little U-Haul trailer for the trip up and brought the motorcycle,
so should be a fun summer.

Sounds like you are pretty serious about this marriage! CONGRATULATIONS!!
