The Big Announcement

It's official, I'm getting married. In fact, I could be married already....

We went to the U.S. consulate today to get the paperwork started and find out what needs to be done with this kind of international union. It turns out - not much. We just signed some forms, paid thirty bucks, and were told to head to our local area office for the final approvals.

Weddings are different over here, the ceremony means nothing. The marriage is only valid when you go to city hall and stamp some forms. No priests, just clerical workers. We're making the big day July 7th, 7-7-07, easy to remember.

Of course we're planning on doing the whole ceremony and party get-up too, just not right now. Trying to get people from both sides of the world together is tough stuff, and we're still looking at how much it will cost versus how much we can spend. At the moment we're talking October or November in Japan. I'm pushing November so people will opt to take Thanksgiving over here. A U.S. ceremony is still something we'd like to do, but we've gotta go one step at a time.
